Congrats to Darron Birkel. On the last night of the second shotgun season, Darron took this impressive 8 pointer with his black powder. This is Darron’s second great deer of the season. There is something really cool about mature eight pointers. I don’t think Darron or I had any trail cam pics of this guy. Earlier in the year, I was hunting a deer that was clearly not very active. I saw him once at about fifty yard. (click here to see footage…I also put it below this article). I hunted him about ten times during the first three weeks in November. I gave up as soon as the temperatures dropped into the thirties. I know what you are thinking, and dont worry, I dont cosider myself a ‘real’ hunter either. But I was worried that he had been killed or moved on to another home. I hadnt seen him or got a trail camera pic in about two weeks. He has resurface in the same area and even gave us a daytime pic about fifteen yards from a stand. It is actually the same stand that Casey shot his cool non-typical deer from last year (click here to see caseys non-typical)
I have no idea where these pics came from. A friend of mine emailed them to me and he doesnt know where they originated. This is a really weird sequence where coyotes surround and kill a mature whitetail deer. My guess is that the deer had some sort of bacterial infection which attracted the coyotes and the deer was almost dead by the time the coyotes surrounded him. Who knows. I will email Grant Woods and see if he has an answer. He knows more about whitetails than anyone I know. Please let me know if you know where these came from. I will follow up with an update if I get one.
Here is some footage I got back in November of a nice young eight pointer. He must be the dumbest deer on the farm. For about 6 or 7 hunts, it wasn’t weird for me to see this deer three or four times per hunt. He was everywhere. I hope he doesn’t smarten up because he will be a great deer next year.

Check out this short clip Ryan got of these two deer fighting. The dominant/older deer looks like he has gotten roughed up pretty good this year. I don’t think he has one full tine. The other deer isn’t that small…I sure thought he would have put up a better fight than that.
Our friends at Land Guys.net just gave us a heads up on an amazing deer. I know that theoretically, the Land Guys are our competitors, but they are some of our best friends inthe industry. Timber Creek, Illinois Land Company, and Land Guys have worked in the past together and we have a new exciting partnership to announce soon about some new parcels that will be available.
