This lake is on a 100 acre parcel just outside of Oak Run in Knox County, Illinois. The lake was built four or five years ago and stocked with forage fish the first year and sporting fish the second year. It was stocked with fingerling fish only be Illinois DNR agent Ken Russell. Chef Todd and I took a trip out there to monitor the progress. We caught a great mix of Bass, Bluegill, and Crappie. The bass were all in the 10-14″ range…which is right on track. Moreso, they were super fat! Check out the bellies on these largemouth. We caught a dozen or so crappie in about ten minutes. They were in the 8-12″ range and were very aggressive. Bottom line is that this place is progressing perfectly. It is going to be a mega trophy fishery in a few years.
The structure on the lake is awesome too. The south side is all flooded timber. It has a fully rip rapped dam. It also has a giant flat with 4′ depths at the west end of the lake. It also has a full creek channel running right though the middle of it.

Nate Herman of Herman Brothers Pond Management, along with Chef Todd, headed out to the Illinois Land Company 480 Acre listing in Knox County to put a fish management plan in place. This is just another way that Illinois Land Company separates itself from the competition…we market the property in full and transfer it over to the new owner with a full professional management plan in place! It was not the best day in the world to shock but we got what we needed to put a plan in place to create an even better fishery! We netted some monster fish in the process too!
A few separate trips to the new 90 acre listing in Fulton illustrated that this lake is nothing short of outstanding. Kelly Presley and his son Tyler had a great day, netting dozens of bass and some walleye! Earlier in the week, Aaron Literski landed multiple bass over 4 lbs…including one over 6 lbs. They also caught some great smallmouths, walleyes, and a musky!. Check out the pics! We also experimented with the GoPros on the lake. They worked great but we definitely need the battery extenders. They died before the fishing got good. This fishing property for sale is a one of a kind!

The Stark County property was an absolute picture perfect small body of water. It had an amazing dock setup! I visualize cooking 50 steaks out there! The Lake was down do to the drought conditions, which also led to lots of duckweed. I’s sure this is fairly rare but easily fixable none the less. This didn’t prevent us from getting into some monster fish. Most of our fish were caught in and around the weeds and aerators. There is a nice population of good crappie, medium bluegills, and great bass. Definitely 7 and 8 pound bass in there! In addition to the monsters that we caught, we lost at least six five pounders. We caught most of the bass on jigs (click here to buy the jigs used on this prostaff trip from Presleys Outdoors). I would love to return here when the water temperature are down. Spectacular lake for any buyer. Great fishing and outdoor entertainment. By the way, my first thought when we entered the automatic gate, was that this place looks like an awesome place to squirrel hunt! More to come on cooking squirrels!

Our first official pro staff trip went exceptionally well. Frank Bury and Mark Coons headed to the main lake on our 64 acre listing in Fulton County. We call it 64 acres because that is how the math breaks down, but it is actually a 1/5 ownership of 319 acres. You get to use the entire property. It has three lakes. The one that Frank and Mark fished was not only the biggest lake on the property, but the biggest lake in Fulton County. It is enormous. The property is also has awesome deer and waterfowl hunting. Fishing trips during the heat of the summer aren’t always indicators of the quality of fishing. Hot long days can slow up even the best lakes, so Frank and Mark hit the main lake with little expectations. The focus was more on the lake assessment … water quality, structure, etc… However, even the hottest day couldn’t slow down this lake.
Mark had this to say about the property…
My first impression of the property is that its a great looking piece! It’s perfect for enjoying on the weekends with friends and family. It has great lake access to accommodate any size boat. The lake is a monster in size! We fished for three hours and only fished one side of the finger we launched in, which is probably only 5-10% of the lake. The fishing seems to be really good considering we started during the hottest part of a mid 90 degree day and still managed to catch over a dozen bass including two great fish – one weighed in at 5.8 and the other at 4.6. My son caught the 4.6 pound bass using a plastic worm, which is not always an easy bait for a 6 year old to use. The Berkley Power Worm seemed to be the hot lure that day (click here to buy Berkley Power Worm online at Presleys Outdoors) .Water quality and depth were excellent. It was a clear lake but not too clear to hurt the fishing. The lake is extremely deep! In my opinion, though, the coolest part of the lake is that it is a target rich environment with tons of rocks,brush and trees to cast at, which is not always the case with stripmine style lakes.

We always like to check out the lakes on the properties we have for sale. This allows us to market exactly what type of fishery we have for sale. This property is going to take a while to analyze simply because of the vast amount of water. Despite some blistering weather, ProStaffer Chef Todd was able to get into some monster bass. His analysis is that the 20 acre lake offers some awesome fishing with great sub surface structure. He also commented that the lake clearly was not pressured. He was only able to fish for a few hours before it got smoking hot and the fishing shut off. We are excited to get back on this lake under better conditions. Check out the pics though…caught some great fish for only a few hours on the water.
