Fishing Trip to the 100 Acres for Sale in Knox County

by John OReilly on August 13, 2013

This lake is on a 100 acre parcel just outside of Oak Run in Knox County, Illinois. The lake was built four or five years ago and stocked with forage fish the first year and sporting fish the second year. It was stocked with fingerling fish only be Illinois DNR agent Ken Russell. Chef Todd and I took a trip out there to monitor the progress. We caught a great mix of Bass, Bluegill, and Crappie. The bass were all in the 10-14″ range…which is right on track. Moreso, they were super fat! Check out the bellies on these largemouth. We caught a dozen or so crappie in about ten minutes. They were in the 8-12″ range and were very aggressive. Bottom line is that this place is progressing perfectly. It is going to be a mega trophy fishery in a few years.

The structure on the lake is awesome too. The south side is all flooded timber. It has a fully rip rapped dam. It also has a giant flat with 4′ depths at the west end of the lake. It also has a full creek channel running right though the middle of it.

Nate Herman of Herman Brothers Pond Management, along with Chef Todd, headed out to the Illinois Land Company 480 Acre listing in Knox County to put a fish management plan in place. This is just another way that Illinois Land Company separates itself from the competition…we market the property in full and transfer it over to the new owner with a full professional management plan in place! It was not the best day in the world to shock but we got what we needed to put a plan in place to create an even better fishery! We netted some monster fish in the process too!

New Listing – 90 Acres in Fulton County with 26 Acre Lake!

I am a partial owner of this property so I know a lot about this one. It is right next to a bigger lake that my father and I own so we simply don’t fish it enough. We built the lake about four years ago and the design was awesome. It features flooded timber, rip rap shore line, two boat ramps, a forage pond that releases thousands of pounds of bait fish into the lake annually, and much much more. It was originally stocked with northern species fish before we introduced Largemouth. So it is heavy with Small Mouth Bass, Walleye, and Muskie! Super rare for this area. The fish have been strictly managed on a high protein fish food diet. The results have been awesome. A recent pro staff trip out there netted a 20 inch bass weighing over 6 lbs! These fish are in excellent shape. I have attached some pics of some fish from last year. Head over to the listing page for more info.

We are excited to announce that Nate Herman of Herman Brothers Pond Management has joined Illinois Land Company as a Broker. This also means an alliance will be formed between Herman Brothers Pond Management and ILC. What this means for ILC Clients is that they will get the expert fish knowledge of Nate, the services of Herman Brothers Pond Management, and a additional knowledgeable ILC team member. This alliance makes perfect sense to both of us…ILC sells a lot of fishing properties and Nate and his team are the best at managing fishing lakes! For our listing clients, it means we will be able to market our properties even more detailed than before. Nate and his team will be able to go onto an ILC Listing and do a full in depth study on the bodies of water. He will produce a report on what is in the lake, what shape they are in, and how it can best be managed to produce the desired result. A perfect fit for ILC!

Nate will be handling the fishing properties sold through ILC. His division will be title Illinois Fishing Properties and the website can be found at

Welcome Nate! Stay tuned…we have some additional expansion announcements to follow soon!

Multiple Monster Bass caught at the 55 acres for sale in Stark County

by John OReilly on July 27, 2012

Chef Todd was at it again…this time at our 55 acre parcel in Stark County.  This place is amazing and the fishing was nothing short of amazing.  Click here to access the listing page for more pics and info.

Chef Todd had this to say about the property…

The Stark County property was an absolute picture perfect small body of water.  It had an amazing dock setup! I visualize cooking 50 steaks out there! The Lake was down do to the drought conditions, which also led to lots of duckweed. I’s sure this is fairly rare but easily fixable none the less.  This didn’t prevent us from getting into some monster fish.  Most of our fish were caught in and around the weeds and aerators.  There is a nice population of good crappie, medium bluegills, and great bass.  Definitely 7 and 8 pound bass in there! In addition to the monsters that we caught, we lost at least six five pounders.  We caught most of the bass on jigs (click here to buy the jigs used on this prostaff trip from Presleys Outdoors).  I would love to return here when the water temperature are down.  Spectacular lake for any buyer.  Great fishing and outdoor entertainment.  By the way, my first thought when we entered the automatic gate, was that this place looks like an awesome place to squirrel hunt! More to come on cooking squirrels!
